The Pommepetition winner:

The Slime Spider

It was a dark night and the wind was howling through the trees. Four little girls were huddled together in their mum and dads’ double bed, waiting for their parents to return home. Each time the wind howled Allegra, the smallest of the girls, would start whimpering with fright. The eldest girl Lily would try and comfort her but with little effect. Suddenly there was a loud bang from downstairs. All the girls jumped and screamed. “What was that!” said Allegra who was even more terrified than before. “I don’t know” said Lily who was starting to get quite worried. “Well you will have to go and check it out” said Ruby. “Why me?” said Lily. “Because you’re the oldest and mum left you in charge!” said Ruby. “Grrrr, ok then!” shouted Lily, who really didn’t want to go downstairs but knew Ruby was right. Lily went downstairs, and it seemed that each step she took creaked an eerie creak. ‘Oh god why do I have to be the responsible one’ she thought. Although all the lights were on there seemed to be lots of shadows dancing around the room which were cast by the dancing trees outside. Once again there was a loud bang. ‘It’s coming from the basement’ thought Lily ‘what can it be?’ Lily bravely went to the basement door and turned the handle. She searched for the light switch and flicked it on, but no light shone. ‘Oh no the lights have fused’ thought Lily. Luckily Lily had a little torch in her pocked as she was used to adventure and ready for occasions such as these. She turned on her trusty torch and one step at a time descended into the darkness trying to locate the source of the noise. Suddenly something pushed her, and she started falling down the steps but at the bottom, instead of a hard surface, she landed in a pool of slime, thick green slime which made it hard for her to move. She shouted for help from her sisters in the hope they might hear her. Upstairs Allegra, Ruby and Olivia all heard the loud bang again then silence then shouts from Lily screaming for help. “What are we going to do?” said Allegra. “I don’t like this” said Olivia. Ruby, who was now the oldest in the group, took courage and said “Right we are going to rescue Lily. Let’s grab some torches and our knives and our sticks just in case.” With these they descended the creaky steps and Lily’s screams became louder. “She’s in the basement” said Ruby. “No! I am not going in the basement!” said Allegra. “Ok” said Ruby “you can stay here and keep watch.” Allegra agreed, as she felt much happier to be in the rooms with full lighting then in the dark basement. With that Olivia and Ruby set off towards the basement and used their torches to see where Lily was. But the shouting had stopped, and they could not see Lily anywhere. They slowly descended the steps into darkness and once again something pushed them both and down they fell into the pool of slime. Ruby instantly knew what was going on and remembered the story she had been told about the basement slime monster that lured children in and ate them once they were caught in the slime. ‘Oh no Lily has been eaten’ she though in despair. “Lily!” she shouted, “Lily are you ok?” Underneath her she heard a muffled sound and wriggling. Lily was under her and Olivia as they had landed on top of her when they fell. “I am right here Ruby, could you please get off me!”. Ruby and Olivia tried to move but the Slime was too thick. “We can’t move lily, sorry”. “We need a plan. Remember the story of the slime monster mum and dad told us?” said Ruby “No” said Lily “You know, the one which eats the children caught in its slime, it’s like a giant spider?” “What?” said Lily in alarm. “Do you mean we are going to be eaten by a giant spider!!” “Well we will if we don’t come up with a plan” said Ruby. “Ok, I seem to remember the solution was vinegar and lots of it.” “I love vinegar” said Lily dreamily, momentarily forgetting where she was. “Ok Allegra is our only hope as all the Vinegar is in the kitchen.” All at once the three girls started shouting for Allegra. Allegra, still terrified with her eyes closed wishing that this was all just a really bad dream, heard the cries of her sisters. “What?” she shouted back. “we need you to get some vinegar right now” shouted Ruby “as much as you can carry. It’s a life or death situation, so please hurry.” Allegra was beside herself. What should she do? What if there was a monster in the kitchen? What if she could not reach the vinegar or not find it? She managed to pull herself together and bravely marched into the kitchen and began searching through all the cupboards, desperately looking for some vinegar. She grabbed two bottles and then ran to the basement door. She used her torch to look down the steps and could see a faint image of her sisters all lying at the bottom of the stairs. She threw one of the bottles of vinegar down the stairs and Ruby caught it. She poured the vinegar on the green slime and it started to sizzle and dissolve. But the noise alerted the monster who was making its way towards them. Ruby hurriedly poured on more vinegar and suddenly they were free. They ran and hid in one of the cupboards in the basement, hoping the giant spider had not seen them. The spider moved closer to the stairs and started to ascend towards Allegra, who stood there frozen with fright. The other three girls came out of the cupboard and tried to get the spiders attention, but it was no good as it was slowly moving towards its next meal. “Allegra!” the girls shouted “Use the vinegar, use the vinegar.” But Allegra could not move from fear. Then Allegra heard a voice in her head, it was her mother’s. ‘Allegra you must not be scared, wait until the spider monster is about 1 foot away and then throw the bottle against its hard shell. It will break, and the spider will dissolve.’ Allegra slowly pulled the bottle from her pocket and got ready to throw it at the spider’s shell. The spider was now 2 feet away and Allegra was terrified. She heard the voice again ‘you can do this Allegra you are an amazing strong girl’. Allegra through the bottle and it hit the spider and exploded. Immediately the spider dissolved into black nothingness and disappeared. The other girls cheered, and cheered. Allegra felt very proud of herself and began to relax, until she felt a cold hand on her shoulder. She screamed and turned around to see it was only her mum and dad who had finally returned home. “What are you all going out of bed?” they said. “Oh, nothing” said Lily “just looking for monsters.” She winked at the other girls. “There is no such thing as monsters.” Said dad. And the girls all looked at each other and started to laugh

The Most Poetic:

The Boy who was Afraid of the light.

There once was a boy so afraid of the light

That he kept his eyes open but only at night,

And when his parents came by he was nowhere in sight,

Up in his cupboard with the door closed tight.

Every day, mum and dad would make sure he was fed,

And hoped that he heard the kind things that they said

But he was still sleeping under the bed

And dreaming of fiery monsters instead

From dawn until dusk he would cower in fear

And growl and hiss whenever people came near

And it went on like this for more than a year

as his toenails grew long and his hair past his ears

Then one night he was thinking…

as he ate his cold meal

what if these fiery monsters aren’t real

And he started to wonder how sunlight might feel

When he noticed a note that said…

let’s make a deal…

We just want to show you the joys of the day,

And How birdsong is better than crickets.

A crack in the curtain won’t kill you we’re certain

And we’d rather you didn’t get rickets

If you… will not scream, when we expose the beam

You may eat all the ice cream you can,

But let out a peep and for the rest of the week

You’ll eat cold fish soup with your hands…

Up and down his bedroom he pondered and paced

At the thought of the Ice-cream that might go to waste

He wrestled for hours, with the decision he faced

till at the last, in his heart he found courage and grace

At the break of the dawn came a knock at the door,

And footsteps that walked the whole length of the floor

A hand reached across to the dread drawstring cord

And pulled until light through the wide window poured

His parents were true for they told him no lies

And the light brought a smile to his tired bloodshot eyes

It felt like a hug,

Like a warm velvet glove

Like what he’d been missing

The sun felt like love!

As the kisses rained down,

He let go of his frown,

And set off at once to the ice-cream shop in town,

And there you will find him…

As the clock strikes it noon

Eating mint chocolate chip

Without using a spoon.

Nom nom nom nom….

The Night of Fright

The floor was cold. When he got back, he realised that the cupboard was shut! He wondered what was in there and then there was a sound. It sounded a bit like this ‘brrrrrrr!’. He then opened the cupboard door and there, inside the cupboard, was a ghost! He jumped and ran all the way to Wales. He met his brothers on the way and decided to stay with them for a while.

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, there was a small, emotionally intelligent pig called Peanuckle. He had a very high EQ score putting him in the top percentile of pigs. He didn’t know this. He had never been given an EQ test. Most of the other pigs, and most of the other animals shunned him because he was a bit weird. In fact, in those days, once upon a time, most pigs and other animals, including the human kind, shunned most of the other animals because they were judged, by their own standards, to be a bit weird. Peanuckle, who, incidently, hated exposition in all its forms, because as a piglet he had read too many famous five books, and had also developed a paranoid fear of long sentences, due to an early, and catastrophic encounter with a 13 line sentence, which had resulted in him experiencing a near death experience, due to an inability to breathe and subsequent loss of oxygen to his brain, woke up feeling strange. “Ooo I feel strange” he thought.

Feeling strange was an entirely familiar feeling for Peanuckle. He always felt strange. He had only ever felt normal on one disastrous occasion, which, mercifully, only lasted for a few minutes before he was rudely reminded that he was weird, but not, unfortunately, before he had bought many items wrapped in single use plastic, but that’s another story.

This story is about the day Peanuckle woke feeling strange, as usual, and reading his calendar, noticed it was Halloween day. Peanuckle, as I have already mentioned, to provide a context for the story, had a high IQ , and, I failed to mention, wasn’t too good with reading. He read foe-net-tickly. So he jumped out of bed, [well I say, “jumped”, but actually it was more like falling off Pulpit Rock] had an Australian shower, and rushed out into the street, shouting “Hello” at everyone and smiling in a particularly friendly, peculiarly infectious and remarkably moving way. The way he was moving moved all the animals he met, including the human kind. They all thought something extraordinarily wonderful had happened and it reminded them of the time when they had loved life with all their hearts, and they too started smiling and greeting people deeply and sincerely, because all of a sudden, everyone, while still remaining weird, appeared to them to be wonderfully wonderful.

As Peanuckle made his way around a small part of the town he lived in, shouting “hallo! Hello! Hallo!” he found himself singing a song he had once heard from some old guy who had rescued him from lonely oblivion in a baby seat store in Norway, with the help of 4 courageously curious, bravely enthusiastic, daringly delightful, and totally normal adventure girls, restored him to the lovin’ arms of the now renowned December Willow.

The song went like this, punctuated, by the greetings he was exchanging with all he met

Small is the sound of one small voice singing… “Hallo Hallo”

Small is the sound of two or of three… “Hallo HALLO Hallooo!”

But all of our voices and all of our choices… “Hallo, stop using plastic Hallo!”

Change the whole world continuously…”Hello Hallo…”

And the strangest thing happened. And when I say strange, you must remember that strange was normal, and so the strangest thing must have been exceptionally strange and

yet absolutely and completely normal. Peanuckle heard what seemed to be echoes around him. “Hello Hallo…” and like ripples from a rain drop falling in a pool that had lain untroubled for so many long, long years, the sound of the infectious smiling, and the emotionally profound connection of the deep and authentic hallo-ing spread out across the nation. The leaders called the leaders of other nations, birds flew south, buffalo roamed west, dolphins, who were already smiling felt entirely exonerated and passed on the message to Tiddler who told it to a skate. Soon the whole world was deeply connected. The shunning disappeared, Plastic was refused, reduced, reused, recycled, removed and restored. The profit motive was lost in the phil-an-throw-pic motive everyone sharing and caring. Progress ceased, because everyone was too busy loving and enjoying each other and there was no need to make the world a better place because, well, it was pretty much as strangely better as it could ever be.

Peanuckle went to sleep that night unware that he had mistaken the meaning of what he had read, and what he had, thereby, inadvertently achieved. He dreamed of butterflies and zebras, and walking in the wind, and it all felt strangely normal.

Never mind the Bogeyman watch out for the Bogeygirls

*To protect the innocent all names in this story have been changed

Once upon a time there was a very happily married couple called Big D and Mama J. They were an incredibly lovely pair who everybody liked and thought was just amazing. Big D had a rippling sixpack that you could grate cheese on and was just a generally handsome individual. It would not be stretching the truth to say there were statues of Greek gods that had been modelled on his physique. Mama J was just amazing all round, an incredibly strong woman who would not tolerate fools (apart from Big D), she was a force of nature and of course also talented in every field she put her mind to. She was a rocket scientist by day and kept herself amused by dabbling in brain surgery at night. Like so many couples Big D and Mama J wanted to have a family of their own and they were blessed by the good lord above with 4 special daughters. The first born was Lolly and despite the fact that she emerged from the womb with a slightly green tint and a look like some sort of alien was very loved by all. The second girl was Boozoo and she arrived with a look on her face that let everyone know that she was not a girl to be messed with and despite her slightly scary name she was also very loved. Big D and Mama J decided that with all the love in their hearts they wanted another child but unfortunately that was not the plan that Lord Jebus had for them and twins were the next to arrive, Peggy and Kate. The twins were so happy and comfortable in the womb that they decided to stay in there for 10 months rather than the normal 9 but when they did finally arrive, its no real surprise to say that they too were adored by all. In a normal world in a family with so much love it would be a case of they all lived happily ever after but of course they did not inhabit a normal world, you could say they lived in their own little world. But still for many years they did lead a very simple life and they seemed no different from any other family. That all changed at the Halloween Party of 2018. Big D for example had aged slightly and although he looked good in his Vampire costume with his snug fitting silver velvet trousers the six pack was but a distant memory and a generous paunch hung over his waistband and if he bent over there was always a glimpse of crack to be seen. Mama J still loved the crazy fool and was still a force of nature but was trying to find a way to perform brain surgery while in a rocket so she could combine her two passions and free up some of evenings to indulge her real love of party organising. Which is what brings us to the great Halloween Party of 2018. There were many clues that could have been spotted that would have maybe avoided the grossness that was to follow but to be honest, Big D was not the sharpest tool in the box and Mama J was a bit too focused on rocket surgery (as she was calling her new venture) and didn’t pick up on just how unusual her daughters had become. The party that had been organised was incredibly (the writer apologises for his small vocabulary and continuing use of this word but he is a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic) over the top and the whole village had been invited and many of those who had turned up came with their burning torches and pitchforks. The costumes were the usual mix of inspiration and effort, Big D was a vampire and Mama J had come as a day of the dead character. It was the children though who really sent a shiver down the spines of all who arrived because their costumes seemed a bit too good to be costumes, it was as though they had become the characters they had dressed up as. Lolly had become Bellatrix Lestrange, right down to her casual use of the Avara Kedavra curse on anyone who didn’t recognise her while Boozoo had transformed into Maleficent. And not the nice Maleficent from the start and end of the film of the same name but the evil Maleficent from the middle part of the film and every other version of Sleeping Beauty ever. Peggy had come as a little day of the dead character and Kate as a corpse bride, both looking as though they had stepped straight from their home in the afterlife into

this story. To complete the scene setting, there was a raging thunderstorm with lightning flashes lighting up the sky enough to reveal a small gap in the storm clouds through which shone a bright full moon. But then none of this mattered because the party was inside and everyone was having loads of fun playing Halloween themed games and getting down to the catchy tunes of the ‘80s favourite bald drummer turned singer, ‘Phreaky’ Phil Collins. But there came a point in the night when the balance of sugar and alcohol consumed tipped from fun and excitement to tiredness and over-exitedness. Its hard to identify when exactly this happened but I think it was just at the point where the church bells had chimed the last bell of midnight and there was a flash of lightning and crack of thunder and then the power went out, right in the middle of Sussudio. There were screams and then silence and then screams again, closely followed by yet more silence. And it was at this point that the chanting started. This was not normal chanting like you might get from a football crowd or even from the compound of a religious cult but it was as if someone had opened the gates of hell and Beelzebub himself was speaking in a voice that could freeze blood, “Now I’ve got ya, now I’m gonna eat ya”. There was a stampede as villagers ran in all directions trying to escape and not wanting to leave their pitchforks and burning torches behind but the chant continued, “Now I’ve got ya, now I’m gonna eat ya”, over and over again so it was pitchforks be damned, it was every man and woman for themselves. People were diving through closed windows and crashing to the ground two floors below, they were falling down stairs, they were running into each other, it was chaos but anything was better than the noise of that chant which was echoing around the valley despite the screams and the general hubbub, “Now I’ve got ya, now I’m gonna eat ya, Now I’ve got ya, now I’m gonna eat ya”. Then there was nothing, the party was over and all the guests had fled and it was just Big D and Mama J standing together in the middle of the room. It was silent finally and they both agreed that it would have been much better if people had just left at a reasonable hour rather than getting themselves drunk and letting their children run around like lunatics on a sugar high. And this thought in the silence made them wonder about their own children and what had become of them when the chant started again, “Now I’ve got ya, now I’m gonna eat ya”. In the darkness they grabbed on to each other, they were the only comfort they had as the chant went through them like a hot knife through butter, “Now I’ve got ya, now I’m gonna eat ya”. Then they noticed there was one window that had survived and not been smashed by a fleeing partygoer, and they noticed that the curtain was not fully drawn, and there was a crack of light from the full moon showing through. “Now I’ve got ya, now I’m gonna eat ya”. They couldn’t be sure but it seemed like the chant was coming from the curtain, was the curtain the gateway to the seventh circle of hell or was there some other more sinister explanation. Big D, being the man he was, didn’t really want to find out and cowered behind Mama J who did not know the meaning of fear as she strode over to the window, grabbed the curtains and as the chanting grew even louder to drown out Big D’s sniffling she flung them apart to reveal…….four little ‘monsters’ standing there picking there noses and for reasons that will remain unexplained saying, “Now I’ve got ya, now I’m gonna eat ya”. “Well done girls” said Mama J, “I thought those bloody villagers would never leave. Who takes kids to a party and stays till after midnight” Big D tried to act like he knew all along what was going on and the rest of his family looked at him pityingly all thinking the same thing, “Lucky he has a strong and fearless woman to look after him’ After that party things went back to normal, Mama J decided that throwing parties was not as much fun as it sounded, Big D’s paunch continued to expand and his crack became more prominent and as for the four little girls, well they never picked their noses again!

The Daily Pomme#15

Hallo

Hello and welcome to the 14th version of the Pomme. As we are no longer travelling the Pomme has gone back to the fortnightly version that contains ‘news’. Hope you enjoy!

Guess Who

No 1:

Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie was born on the 15 of September 1890 and died on the 12 of January 1976. She is a well-known English writer famous for her 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections which revolve around her fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. She also wrote the worlds longest-running play, a murder mystery named The Mousetrap and under the pen name Mary Westmacott she also wrote six romances. She was appointed a DBE in 1971, for her contribution to literature

No 2:

Audrey Hepburn was born on the 4 of May 1929 and died from appendiceal cancer on the 20 of January 1993. She was ranked by the American Film institute as the third greatest female screen legend in Golden Age Hollywood (the first was Ingrid Bergman and the second was Katherine Hepburn). She is recognised as a film and fashion icon. Later on in life she appeared less often in movies and devoted more time to UNICEF to which she had contributed to since 1954. She was also inducted into the international Best Dressed List Hall of Fame which also includes Princess Catherine and Coco Channel (I didn’t even know such a thing existed)

No 3:

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born on the 11 of October 1884 and died from a cardiac failure on the 7 of November 1962. She was married to her fifth cousin once removed, Franklin D. Roosevelt. She was the First Lady of the United States from March 1933 to April 1945 making her the longest serving First Lady of the United States. She served as the U.S delegate to the United Nations General Assembly from 1945 to 1952. She was later called the “First Lady of the World” in tribute to her human rights achievements.

No 4:

Grace Brewster Murray Hopper was Born on the 9 of December 1906 and died on the 1 of January 1992. She was an American computer scientist and United States Navy rear admiral. She was one of the first programmers for the Harvard Mark I computer. She popularized the idea of machine-independent programming languages which led to the development of COBOL which is a high-level programming language which is still used today. She also invented one of the first complier related tools.

Special Mentions

I would like to give a special mention to Dann Casswell and applaud him for correctly guessing the theme of the guess who. Here is his comment:

Ok so guesses…

I believe the first one to be Agatha Cristie,
Crime Writer and Elvis impersonator.

I believe the second to be, Audrie Hepburn
Movie Star and Elvis Impersonator

I believe the third to be the indefatigable Eleonor Roosevelt.
First Lady of the United states, keen bird watcher and Elvis Impersonator.

and last but not least…
an old lady…
mmm….

Judging by the uniform and flag, I’m thinking a United States Navy rear admiral?

Which means she could be…
Grace Hopper, computer scientist associated with Harvard Mark 1…
and some might say obsessive if not compulsive Elvis Impersonator…

So I’m thinking the theme is “Women of History who are keen on Elvis”

Am I close?

Yes Dann you are close. As a reward you get Five Minutes of Fame in this Special Mention in this weeks Pomme. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Vaarwel

I hope you all enjoyed this weeks episode of the Pomme and are looking forward to the next one in wo weeks time. Until then all I can say is Vaarwel.

  • Peniscola: Some places just have weird names. The seaside town of Peniscola is in Spain.
  • Uranus: No I’m not talking about the planet. There is a place in America called Uranus. But the fun is yet to come. There is a newspaper in Uranus called the Uranus Examiner.
  • F***ing: This charmingly named place is in Austria.
  • Accident: There is a place called Accident in America. I wonder if they made it on accident?

And there you have them. These oddly named places are real places that you can go and visit someday. So if you ever want someone to exclaim “You went where?” upon being told of your summer vacation then these are the places to go.

Guess Who

I have decided that every second Pomme I will do a guess who about four famous women. Here they are:

The Daily Pomme#13

Guten Tag!

Hello and welcome to the 13th version of the Pomme. As we are no longer travelling the Pomme has gone back to the fortnightly version that contains ‘news’. Hope you enjoy!

Guess Who

Here are the four famous women with a short biography to accompany each photo.

No 1:

The first photo is of Ada Lovelace. She was born in December 1815 and died in November 1852. She was an English writer and mathematician. She is mainly known for her work with Charles Babbage on the first ever computer; the Analytical Engine. She realised that the machine could do other things than calculations and published the first algorithm* intended to be carried out by said machine. Because of this she is sometimes regarded as the world’s first computer programmer.

*a process or set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem-solving operations, especially by a computer.

No 2:

The second photo is of Amelia Earhart. She was born in July 1897 and disappeared in July 1937. She was an American aviation pioneer and an author. She was the first ever female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and  received the United States Distinguished Flying Cross because of it. During her attempt to fly around the globe she disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island.

No3:

The third photo is of Malala Yousafzai. She was born in July 1997. On the 9th of October 2012, at the age of 15, she was on a bus home after having taken an exam, She and two other girls were shot by a Taliban gunman in an assassination attempt. She was shot in the head by a bullet but luckily made a miraculous recovery. She became a prominent activist for the right to education. In 2012 she was the recipient of Pakistan’s first National Youth Peace Prize and in 2013 she won the Sakharov Prize. In 2014 aged 17, she won the Nobel Peace prize along with Kailash Satyarthi, making her the youngest person- boy or girl- to win a Nobel prize

No4

The last photo is of Rosa Parks. She was born in February 1913 and died in October 2005. She is best known for her role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. On December 1st, 1955 in Montgomery Rosa Parks decided not to give up her seat in the bus for a white passenger as the bus had no other seats available. She was not the first person to say no but she was definitely the most famous. She got arrested and millions of other black people decided to boycott the buses until the law was changed. After about a year the law was changed. It was one of the first steps towards the end of segregation and it all happened thanks to Rosa Parks who sat down to stand up.

I hope you enjoyed these four short biographies and learned a heap of information.

Auf Wiedersehen

I hope you all enjoyed this weeks episode of the Pomme and are looking forward to the next one in wo weeks time. Until then all I can say is auf wiedersehen.

My Night at the Ballet 9: The Final Defeat

My Night at the Ballet 9: The Final Defeat

Leander stared at Ruby in shock. Thoughts ran through his head. How? Why? Why did she not tell me? Then again, she probably didn’t know if she could trust me. I did just tell her that I worked for Ingrid, who was once their enemy. What do we do? She cannot be captured at any cost. Because it makes it easier to create Trinatural’s when a Kronos is present, and it is very dangerous to do it by yourself. Then he said “Why did you… why didn’t you tell me?” Ruby rolled her eyes. “Well, let’s see.” She feigned thinking. “Wow! I can’t think of anything! Wait, if I think hard enough…” She screwed up her eyes. “Oh yes! There was the fact that you were pretty much a stranger. Then there was the fact that I woke up in an unknown room in a destroyed castle. Then you barged in and knocked me over, almost breaking my other arm, then you led me through what was the remains of Ingrid’s castle, who was once our enemy, and then you told us that Ingrid was not actually our enemy, so that just about sums up why I didn’t tell you.” Ruby replied. So that is how she knew I was Leander. She sensed I was a powerful Aliras, then… “You can Find the position of Ingrid!”

*meanwhile*

Ruby looked at him, confused. “Your Collision Powers!” Ruby looked confused still. Then she realised what he meant. “Oh! When all of the Supernatural powers collide! Well, we were practicing when Justine got the vision, and we left to see you.” So we mastered all my normal new powers. But we only did one Collision power, and that was an accident. I was pulled out of where I was to somewhere in a forest. Justine was there in a tree, and underneath were wolves. But there was almost no fruit left on the tree. I tried to use my Aliras powers and inhabited her, then I thought about where I was when I was pulled to her, and I came back there, and Justine flew out of me. It was an accident.” Leander looked troubled for a moment, then said “I will teach you. I was alive in the times of Kronos’, and all the other Trinatural’s. My Father was a Rivrade! He had a best friend who was a Kronos, and he tried to teach me Kronos powers, wondering if I was a Kronos. I am an Aliras,” he assured the Audience. “Well, first you have to-“ “find a good spot to train, and not do it in a tiny room?” cut in Lily. Leander turned red. “right.” He mumbled. They set off.

*meanwhile*

As they walked into a courtyard that had Broken glass and rubble all over it, Ruby had the foresight to grab broom to brush away the glass. Not much they could do on the Rock front, though. She started to sweep away the glass away, but when she finished, Leander told her to hold out her hand and picture the rocks in a pile by the castle. Then he told her to twist her hand. Nothing happened. Then he told her to start small. “Close your eyes and picture on boulder floating through the air towards the castle, and lower it down.” She did it, but dropped the rock halfway. The second time she tried, she made it. Then she did a rock without dropping it, then two, then three, then four… suddenly, she got side side-tracked thinking about the castle. She twisted her hand to move the rock, then wondered why no one had bothered to renovate the castle. She thought about how it used to be, and then heard a gasp. She must be moving the rocks well! She felt accomplishment, and opened her eyes. She gasped. The whole castle was good as new! “I- I didn’t mean to!” she stammered. “I was thinking about the castle.” Leander smiled. “good. Now, here is what you do. Picture Ingrid and then picture Walking.” After three tries, she managed to do it. she opened her eyes and said “I saw her and another person. They were talking and putting magic in a bowl. They were in a cave, but the entrance was sort of gooey and bluish.” Leander nodded. “I thought so. Izzy, grab Justine and we shall all Walk there. You will see me in the Space. And so they all Walked to Ingrid’s new home.

*meanwhile*

Ingrid looked out the entrance of the cave. She saw that there would be five people walking through it at two fifty seven. She looked at the clock. Two fifty four. “Maria!” She called. Maria ran in. “In three minutes there will be guests. One man and four young girls. The man is Leander and three of the girls are Lily, Ruby and Isabella.  The other girl is probably the new one, Justine.” Ingrid told her. Maria nodded and ran out. Ingrid looked at the door again. Maria would come  in again, and at three thirty six there would be an animal or something. Damn those animals! She would have to put a spell on the door to keep the animals out. The magic door told her who would come in and when, so she could be prepared. To unnerve her guests, she brewed some mint tea, got out some biscuits and arranged them on a plate. She poured tea into five cups, placed a plate in front of each of the chairs, and sat down. Seconds later, the group stepped through the door. “Hello, Leander, Ruby, Lily, Isabella, and… Justine?” she nodded at each of them. “I’ve been expecting you. Have some tea.”

*meanwhile*

Lily was stunned, but she learnt from Ruby Redfort (a book she read, I recommend it) that if you have the advantage, make sure you keep it. She also learnt that panic will freeze your brain. Also, she learnt that you should buy some time, because a few extra seconds could save your life. So, she smiled and sat down. “Thank you. Guys? Coming?” As Ruby had also read Ruby Redfort she knew those rules. So, she nodded and sat down. “Ingrid! Long-time no see, eh! So, what have you been up to? And, Leander told us that you were working for a good cause, so we are okay now. Plus, if you still hate us, you can scooch us out!” Ruby smiled. Then Lily added “But that would make Trinatural making a whole lot more dangerous because we have help.” Ingrid looked speechless. Then she said “You… you found a cure to the dangers? But I… I spent years trying to find one so that I could make a potion.” Seeming to come to her senses, she cried “Which you destroyed, might I add! I you. But you don’t know what any of them are, do you. And you!” She screeched, turning to look at Leander. “You didn’t come with me to this land. I need a powerful Aliras to make one. I am training Maria, but… well. And then you help these girls, and take them right to my house! Then you tell me that you have the Danger Cure? There is one in the World! And it is a Kronos! And they are all Extinct, so what do we-“ She had been trying to ignore the four girl’s giggles. But it was un-ignorable when they started rolling around on the floor, laughing. Ingrid face had gone Red, and her face was comical. Plus, they did have a Kronos. Even Leander’s mouth twitched. Ingrid caught sight of her expression in the mirror. She to started to laugh. She sat down, and laughed harder. Then as she pictured her expression, she laughed so hard that she fell off the chair. The whole group laughed and laughed. Suddenly, Ingrid bumped her arm, and sat up. “Well, look at us. Laughing like friends.” Still chuckling, Izzy sat up. “Ruby is the last Kronos. She was hit by the dart. That was when she pulled it out and threw it at you. The group collapsed into laughter once more.

*meanwhile*

The group of unlikely friends : a Hybrid between Witch and Seer, the Traveller, the three Aliras’, and a Kronos, all former enemies, were sitting having tea. From behind her curtain, Maria watched them, specifically the Kronos. Thinks she is lucky, does she? Well, we shall see about that. She is dangerous. She is dangerous. I dedicated my life to guiding Ingrid, the Hybrid that she is, not to make more Kronos’. I even exploded the castle. I was almost there, but then that comes along, and ruins everything. She smiled, bitterly. But they shall both pay. Each and every Hybrid. And the Last Kronos. She sharpened her knife.

*meanwhile*

Lily had tears of laughter in her eyes. She had not been this carefree since before they went to the land of doom and left again. Then again, there was danger. She felt that there was no danger here. She was safe. Suddenly, Maria stepped out from her curtain. “Maria! I haven’t seen you in hours! Come have tea!” Maria smiled and came over. She sat next to Ruby. “Hello, Kronos.” She said. Lily frowned, as did everyone except Ingrid and Leander who seemed unconcerned. “Her name is Ruby.” Izzy said sharply. And that is what you shall call her.” Izzy said sharply. Maria nodded and Smiled thinly. Then she used some magic, and little by little, she strung it on the invisible strings that hang in the air. Lily was the first to slump. Then, as soon as the others noticed, they to slumped. They were only in control of their heads. Maria took out her knife and laughed. “You think you can still win?” Well then. She took the magic off Justine. She held out one hand to stop the others, and one hand weaved magic. She fed it into Justine. “Justine, don’t you see? They spelled you to believe they were right. Well, the Kronos is dangerous. Remember when you almost fell off the bird? It was on purpose. And the only truth they told was the tale of how Ingrid as cruel. And she is, isn’t she?” Maria asked. “Yes, very terrible.” Agreed Justine, who was spelled to believe her. “Well,” said Maria. “I can help you back to your family. I would like you to do one thing. Just walk up to the Kronos and place a hand on her forehead. Then whisper Emorta.” Justine nodded. The believance was in her blood. Only if Maria told her to she would stop. She walked over in a trance. Ingrid and Ruby had their mouths sealed shut so that they would not say a spell. Then, the animal that Ingrid saw walking through the door walked through the door! It snuck sneakily towards Justine, who’s hand was reaching out… “Emor-“ At just the right moment, Peanuckle the pig jumped out of the shadows and bit Justine on the arm. As the blood flowed out, so to did the Gold of dark magic. Justine blinked, In her shock, Maria released her tight grip. Ruby and Ingrid conjured Chains and threw them at her. Ingrid’s chains quenched magic, while Ruby’s held her down. The others found they were released in fondness and gratitude, everyone came and gave Peanuckle a hug. He snorted and wriggled free. Justine went and found a potato, and the humans had cake, and after that, Ingrid called her ice blue VGV and gave Justine and Peanuckle a ride. And then she showed her the baby VGV, which Justine dubbed Sequins. It was a very happy ending indeed.

Goodbye Norway

26th August 2018

Where are we?  North Sea, between Norway and Denmark

Our last day in Norway involved driving to our final campsite and just relaxing.  There was nothing much we needed to do, no last minute adventurous-ness we needed to fit in, so we could just take it easy.  We played some games and got a bit organised for our departure tomorrow but there was nothing more to it than that.  We went out for a final dinner with Tim and Jeni though our choices were limited by being in small town Norway out of season.  But we found somewhere to have a reasonably nice meal at an exorbitantly high price but I think we were all a bit too tired to care too much, as long as none of us had to cook, that was the main thing.  We had not timed our stay at this particular campsite very well as there was a concert scheduled for this evening so from about 9pm until 11.30 there was the thumping sounds of a Norwegian cover band making the van vibrate and sleep impossible and then from about 2.30 to 3am after the bar had shut there was the thumping sounds of a group of drunken Norwegians chanting and clapping and generally having no regard for anyone who might be sleeping.  This was not the ideal preparation for our 5.45am alarm call so that when it did go off we had a group of very sleepy, grumpy people.  We did feel like getting our own back on the drunken Norwegians but we are far too polite for such shenanigans.  We drove the short way to Kristiansand which was to be our final destination, we started in Hell and things had definitely improved in the time we have been in Norway.  It was an awesome place and somewhere that I can definitely see us returning to as I feel like we have only scratched the surface and there is so much more for us to see and do.  Plus it is the sort of place that I think suits us, it is a country that is geared to the outdoor, adventurous type of holiday and the options are pretty limitless.  So absolutely a return is on the cards!

What have we learned?  Norway gave us everything we wanted and left us wanting so much more.  Next time.

Canoes and Train Bikes

24th August 2018

Where are we? Flekkefjord, Norway

Four thirty in the morning starts have a knock on effect on the following days.  So arriving at our next campsite we spent a day and a half doing nothing.  I say doing nothing but obviously the twins spent as much time as possible bouncing up and down on the trampoline as they possibly could because they have boundless energy.  There was an inverse relationship between how much energy each of us had and our age, so the twins didn’t stop, Ruby had bursts of activity and so did Lily although less so.  Jess, Jeni, Tim and I though, spent quite a bit of time lying down not doing a great deal.  But we did recover and the realisation that there was not long left on our trip gave us the inspiration to get moving, that and the fact we had a couple of days of good weather to take advantage of.  One of the things we wanted to do a bit of on our trip was to use our inflatable kayaks and get out on the water but we haven’t done that as much as we hoped.  There are a few reasons for this, being in the right place at the right time with the right weather mostly but it is what it is.  So given that our campsite is on a lake and the weather is good and there is nothing better to do that was our goal.  So a picnic was prepared and the boats inflated and so that we had enough crafts to transport us all a pedalo was hired.  We had Jess and me in one kayak, Tim and Jeni in another and the girls all on a pedalo and we set off looking for a place to pull up and have lunch.  The water was calm and there was little wind so we had our most successful paddle of all our attempts and we found a small island, not much more than a rock really, that seemed like as good a place as any to have our lunch.  After our lunch we wanted to do some more kayaking and as there was a big island just next to our little rock we decided to circumnavigate this, Jess and I in one direction and the rest in the opposite direction.  We did about two thirds of a lap before meeting up and since they all wanted to do a full circuit we turned around and went with them before making our way back to our dock.  Almost a couple of hours on the water which was exactly the sort of thing we had in mind when we bought the kayaks so we were pretty happy that we had finally got to do it.  The next day we decided to go for something completely different and take a ride on a train bike.  This is pretty much as it sounds, there is a stretch of train track, disused it must be stressed, that winds its way around some lakes and through some tunnels and you can hire a contraption that is basically a tandem bike mounted on a platform connected to some train wheels and you pedal away and off you go.  So a couple of these were hired, with each having another couple of seats for passengers, and we set off.  Describing the effort required makes it sound like quite a breeze but there was quite a climb on the track in places and the ‘bikes’ were pretty basic with no gears or anything to make it easier so it was just leg power that kept us going, luckily the novelty of it made everyone want to have a go so we swapped around a few times which gave all our legs a bit of a rest.  Going through the tunnels was a strange sensation as some of them were over a kilometre long and we were in complete darkness apart from a bit of light given off by some head torches that were supplied.  There was a real chill inside them as well and the noise of the wheels on the tracks just echoed all around and all you could do was keep pedalling away.  It was like something out of a 60s or 70s film like Willy Wonka where we were riding our magic bike and being transported back to Dickensian London.  At least that is how it felt to me, I think all the pedalling effort was making me delirious.  Or hallucinate.  We did hit a downhill stretch and that was a whole lot easier and we eventually came to a spot where we could stop and have some lunch next to a lake.  Our timing was not perfect though as no sooner had we sat down and got everything out than it started to rain.  Not heavily but just enough to be annoying although luckily it didn’t last too long.  We had to head back which meant starting off with an uphill stretch again which no one was looking forward to but we just kept our heads down and pedalled as hard as we could.  We stopped on the way to do some drone filming but mostly we just wanted to get back, it was a 30km round trip with a fair amount of effort involved so we were all pretty worn out.

What have we learned?  There is a change of feeling from the start of a big trip to the end.  At the start it is that ‘we can do anything we want’ and time is our friend but now it is ‘did we do everything we wanted’ and there is a real end of season feeling to it all.

The Daily Pomme#11

Óla

Hello and welcome to the eleventh episode of the Pomme. As usual it features a story by Ruby Tuesday and a travel blog by Lila Tate. I hope you enjoy!

Day 47

19/08/2018

Today  we are driving. We had breakfast, which was the usual porridge, then set off. On the way we stopped at a ‘fairy forest’, a forest where there were statues of goblins, trolls and fairies along the path. We then went back to where we had parked Sven, and made a fire and had lunch which included a stroke of genius by me. Toast! We found some sticks and made toast by cooking it on the fire.

At four we re-set off for Priekkestolen campsite. We got there and chocked up then put up the tent for Tim and Jeni. We played Kubb and relaxed as we were all quite tired. After gouté Ruby and I finished the Pomme  and the twins played frisbee. We then lounged around until dinner which was pasta and bean salad then watched Ninet  then read ‘til lights out.

Day 48

20/08/2018

Today is a lazy day. We all had lie ins then spent the day playing Kubb and frisbee. We had lunch which was our usual sandwiches. After lunch Ruby and I went and did the dishes. We came back and discovered that dad, Allegra and Olivia had done a total of fourteen passes in frisbee, so we quickly set out to do the same. After many tries we finally managed to get fifteen but sadly Ruby dropped it on sixteen. It quickly became a competition with Ruby, Olivia and I on one team and Tim, Jeni, Allegra and dad on another team. We got up to 38 but then they beat us with 71. They had more people. And they probably cheated. In my opinion my team won. We then had dinner which was a really nice curry then brushed teeth and hair and read ‘til lights out.

Day 49

21/08/2018

Today is the longest day of our trip. We are walking up Pulpit Rock. We got up at four thirty in the morning as, in order to get there when there is basically no one up there, you have to get up early. Hence waking up at four thirty. It took us half an hour to get ready, so we started walking at five o’clock. The walk took us about two hours and we passed about ten people on the way up. We got to the top and there were like twenty people. We took some photos, had a peanut butter and jam sandwich and some fudge, did some drone filming then set off back down the mountain.

On the way we encountered a lot more people and were glad that we had got up at four in the morning (some of us were. I was dreaming about sleep). It took us about two hours to walk down. We went back to the campsite and took down the tent then set off for or next campsite. On the way we stopped for lunch then set off again. We got to the campsite a few hours later and just lounged around, going on their really cool trampoline, playing Go Fish and reading. We had dinner which was vegan burger and salad. We then played wizard then brushed teeth and hair and read ‘til lights out.

Day 50

22/08/2018

Today is a recovery day. We spent the day lounging around recovering from the aftermath of our walk up Pulpit Rock. We spent the morning lounging around, playing Go Fish, reading, going on the trampoline and playing in the park. We ate lunch then we went for a walk and Tim and Jeni had a nap. We walked along the beach for a bit before going back to Sven and watching a film. After the film was finished we went over to Tim and Jeni’s cabin and restarted the Playing Go Fish, reading, etc, etc cycle until dinner which was a delicious couscous curry. After dinner we played a game of wizard which I lost by a disastrous 20 points. We then went back to Sven and brushed teeth and hair then read ‘til lights out.

Day 51

23/08/2018

Today is a ‘rest day’. Note the speech marks. We went pedalo-ing and canoeing. Mum and dad were in one canoe, Tim and Jeni were in the other canoe and my sisters and I were in the pedalo. We set off at twelve after lounging around playing our new favourite game, Go Fish. We canoed over to an island and named it Peanuckle Island after our pig teddy.

After lunch we canoed around a bigger island which took us about an hour we were racing and our pedalo won, which contained me, Jeni, Allegra and Ruby (Olivia had gone in Tim’s canoe), won! We got home and lounged around. My sisters and I went on the trampoline and played Go Fish (not on the trampoline, duh) until dinner which was a really tasty pasta. After diner we watched Peter Rabbit the new movie. It is a highly comedic film. We then brushed teeth and hair and read ‘til lights out.

My Night at the Ballet 9: The Final Defeat continued

Plus, if you still hate us, can scooch us out!” Ruby smiled. Then Lily added “But that would make Trinatural making a whole lot dangerouser, because we have help.” Ingrid looked speechless.

Day 52

24/08/2018

Today we are bike riding on a railway track. We had breakfast and lounged around for a while before driving into town. We went shopping for some lunch then went to where the train tracks started. We got on the bikes and set off.

We rode for two hours with a few stops before stopping for lunch. Obviously, because why not, it started raining just after we had stopped for lunch. Luckily it was only light rain and didn’t last long but it was still annoying. After lunch we headed back and rode for two hours to get back to the start, stopping to do some drone filing on the way there. We got back and drove back to our campsite and lounged around, going on the trampoline, playing Go Fish and reading. We had dinner which was really good then played a game of Go Fish before going back to the van. We brushed teeth and hair then read ‘til lights out.

My Night at the Ballet 9: The Final Defeat continued

Day 53

25/08/2018

Today we are driving. We had breakfast then set off. We drove for an hour and a half before arriving at our campsite and going on a quick reccy. We then had lunch and lounged around Pomming and reading until the twins went and played a game of Kubb which lasted for about an hour too long (the whole game lasted an hour). While they were gone Ruby and I continued Pomming. The twins came back and Ruby and I had a break from Pomming and played a game with them. We then lounged around until five when we went out to town. We went shopping and then went out for dinner at a restaurant. No it was not vegan. Or vegetarian. Allegra and I had chicken nuggets and chips (with lots of tomato sauce) Ruby had nachos, mum had a burger and everyone else had the classic, fish and chips. After dinner we went back to the campsite. There was a concert going on just next door to the campsite and we heard some songs we liked. The problem was, it was extremely loud. You could feel the floor vibrating from the thumping backbeat. So when you are trying to get to sleep it can be very annoying. We brushed teeth and hair and read ‘til lights out but that was not the end. The sleep part didn’t come until an hour or so later. We were just falling asleep (it was eleven thirty and the concert had just stopped) when Olivia fell out of bed, waking us all up. We then eventually all fell asleep.

My Night at the Ballet 9: The Final Defeat continued
